How to Take Care of Your New Tattoos in Summers?

2019 Mar 23rd

(Summary:

Learn here how to keep your tattoo looking bold and beautiful during summers.)

So we are two months away from entering the summers of 2019. It is one of the lovely seasons of the year with radiant sun and a great opportunity to go outdoors.

And if you are someone with cool tattoos, it is the best time of the year to flaunt them, right at a beach or the pool.

However, the arrival of summers also means that you need to take care of your new tattoos. For example, protecting your tattoo from the sun is quite challenging. Overexposure to the sun can fade your tattoos. Another thing to worry about is excessive sweating which can trigger infections in a tattooed area.

That’s why taking care of your tattoos, especially those new ones, is really challenging. Fret not!

You can keep your tattoos bright and beautiful just like summers. All you need to follow the steps given below.

Protect Your Tattoos from the Sun:

Overexposure to the sun can kill your tattoo. This is because tattoos are made up of pigment and some pigments are vulnerable to fading when exposed to UV rays. And this is even true for a fresh tattoo. It goes without saying that you should wear sunblock every time you get outside. Make sure to choose the one with SPF 30. Sunblock can be applied to the fresh tattoos even when they are healing in their initial stage. Sunscreen should be worn every 2-3 hours.

However, avoid sunblock or greasy creams when your tattoo is not healed or looks “wounded”. It can clog your pores and affect your healing process.

Cover Your Tattoo with Clothing:

Make sure to cover your tattoos with a light layer of clothing. Choose lightweight fabrics like cotton which will let your skin breathe as well as protecting your tattoos. This way, you can have a vibrant tattoo for the years to come.

Protect it From Beach Sand:

Getting to a beach is one of the exciting summer activities. However, it won’t be good for your tattoos, especially if you have a foot tattoo. This is because the sand is terrible for the tattoos as it acts like sandpaper to them. And foot tattoos are more prone to the beach sand. If anything rubs at the outer layers, the end result will be patchy and discolored tattoos. A similar thing will happen to other tattoos if you lie on the sand.

Avoid Swimming:

You must be eagerly waiting for this moment! However, you shouldn’t swim with your new tattoos. Avoid swimming in the pools or in water bodies. Prolong contact of water like submerging is not good for your tattoos. It will disfigure the design and fade the ink as well.

Even worse, it affects the healing of your tattoo. This is because pool water contains chemicals like chlorine which affects your fresh tattoos that are technically a wound. Then, water bodies like the ocean or rivers contain bacteria that can get into your fresh tattoo. Therefore, make sure to avoid swimming for at least 2-3 weeks until the healing process is on.

What if swimming is essential or you accidentally get your tattoo soaked or wet?

Don’t worry! Do these things…

  • Use waterproof materials like plastic to cover the tattoo or keep it out of the water as possible. Remove the wrap as soon as you get out of the water.
  • •Wash your tattoo immediately with antibacterial soap when you are out of the water. This step is important to remove the risk of infection.

•Let it dry naturally. Use a clean towel to wipe off excess water and let it dry on its own.
